the inwils interval; 1.13 – All about Fate 🎁

In this months interval, I want to talk about Fate
Before we start I have to say that I am probably going to use a range of words and phrases interchangeably throughout this podcast. The essence of what I am talking about is whether you, me or whoever believes in fate. What I mean about this is whether, at this point in our lives, the future is already set out for us and we are just moving towards that final scenario virtual on autopilot. Or can we change our fate, if it exists, or even create our own!
On a side note – did you notice I was talking about fate in Episode 13 – unlucky for some! – You might have even thought it was planned 🙂
I’ve often had this theory – another one of inwils’ theories! – that if we are doing what fate wants us to do then life progresses in sync with the universe and we find that things slot into place and, before we know it, we have achieved several things. However, when we deviate from the ‘path’ then life becomes difficult and resists our progression. I’m not saying that it is not impossible to follow this alternative path, it is just that it takes a bit more effort and stress. Considering this theory, you would actually have fate or path that is predetermined and so you need to find this path and follow it in order to have a stress free life. Of course, there might be quite a difference between what fate wants us to do and what we want to do, hence the possible conflict
If you have ever seen the Disney animated movie of Hercules – and if you haven’t definitely added it to your list of films to watch – the music and the storyline are quite spectacular. Thinking about the songs now I really want to burst into song, but I’m forcing myself to stay focused on fate. Where was I – oh yes, in the film Hercules we actually meet the Fates. According to Greek Mythology these of three old women who are in charge of the destinies of all living things. Their destinies, or fate, is represented by a piece of string. The women have names and, although I will not even attempt to pronounce their greek names, the English versions are very interesting to me, and possibly you, the listener. Their names are Spinner, links to the thread, Allotter, a person who allots things – assign things, allocates things and finally Inflexible. It’s this last translation of the third Fate that intrigues me. Fate is inflexible, which would link to my original theory, that there is a path or fate for us all and we should try to follow that inflexible path!
One of my favourite quotes from the Star Wars movies is when Luke Han and Obiwan are discussing the force on the Millenium Falcon on their first-ever trip
Han Solo: Kid, I’ve flown from one side of this galaxy to the other. I’ve seen a lot of strange stuff, but I’ve never seen anything to make me believe there’s one all-powerful Force controlling everything. There’s no mystical energy field that controls my destiny. It’s all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.
This links to the alternative view about fate and destiny that it is not set out for us and we are not following anything at all. If anything, rather than there being an inflexible path set out for us we actually control our own destiny and fate has nothing to do with it.
Frequently as we attempt to navigate life rich waterways it might appear that we have little or no control over our lives. People might decide where we go or progress whether this is in our jobs or hobbies. There are so many outside influences that it could be said that you can’t control anything about the future since we are essentially out of control of our own lives. For example, I would love to be a full-time content creator, but I need to work to pay the bills. At work, tasks need to be completed that are assigned to me to do – many of which I don’t have an option about completing. This in turn fills my day and so from waking to sleeping my fate is more likely to be dictated by other people and general needs. If this is the case then fate is once again, out of my control and can be seen as an inflexible pathway ahead of me, controlled by others rather than a mystical force.
So far, you might be thinking that our fate is either decided on already or is dictated by others. However, I don’t want to leave you in that quagmire of life. Although it might initially appear that we have very little control over our lives this does not mean that we are automated. We do have decisions to make choosing what to do and when to do it. I am choosing to do this podcast. I enjoy it so much that I carve out time to write the script and record it, even if that means getting up very early, even before the sun peeks over the horizon.
But there is even more choice available. Life is full of experiences that may or may not be part of our fate. It is important that as these experiences happen that we are willing participants in the events. I’m not going to be sad and disinterested when I am attending meetings or events. I want to be a willing participant and enjoy them. Make new connections meet new people and possibly even develop more as a person. Fate may or may not be set out for us and we might never know the answer to whether it is or not. However, I would say that doesn’t matter it is not what our fate is, but how we engage with it. So be willing positive participants in whatever comes your way, do what you like doing, even if you need to carve out time for is and most importantly enjoy your fate and possible destiny.
